The most transformative districts in the country have engaged their larger community in developing a Portrait of a Graduate, a collective vision that articulates the community’s aspirations for all students. Locally developed, but globally positioned, the Portrait of a Graduate serves as a North Star for system transformation. Leadership teams work collectively to build this vision into every aspect of their strategic plan. In this interactive and engaging workshop, education leaders will be challenged to: 1) create a leadership strategy for engaging their community in the development of a Portrait of a Graduate, and 2) develop a roadmap for implementation, considering key shifts in instruction, professional learning, assessment, and school culture. Participants will leave with free tools and resources to help bring to life their vision of 21st century learning for all students.
Every great teacher and every great school constantly work towards creating better learning conditions for students. Just as we hope our students become lifelong learners, we as educators should be 21st-century learning and improving. This workshop is for school leaders of all kinds (from teacher-leaders to principals to superintendents) who are launching innovation in schools—starting new efforts to work together to improve teaching and learning. Together, we’ll examine key elements of the “blocking and tackling” of leading a change initiative, from bringing people together around ideas they care about, refining a vision and getting to work, empowering teacher-leaders as change leaders, and effectively creating the conditions for classroom innovation.
We have gathered world-renowned speakers to share their knowledge, insights, and experience in innovation in education.
